Section of Highway 5 Renamed in Honor of Prince

Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill designating a section of the highway as the “Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway” during a ceremony at Paisley Park on Tuesday.
Lawmakers in the Minnesota Senate overwhelmingly voted last week to honor Prince by renaming the section of the roadway that goes through Chanhassen by a vote of 55-5. It passed the House by a vote of 121-0.

MINNEAPOLIS — After seven long years of planning, fundraising, and securing the location, Thursday, the Crown our Prince mural initiative is excited to unveil a massive mural of the groundbreaking Minnesota native in the heart of the downtown theater district.
The 100-foot-tall mural, painted by Miami-based muralist Hiero Veiga, depicts portraits taken of Prince at three separate points in his career. It sits at 1st Avenue and 8th Street, on the side of parking Ramp A.

New York — A new song from Prince’s late father, produced at Paisley Park, is being released Thursday to celebrate what would have been his 101st birthday.
Prince’s half-sister, Sharon Nelson, produced the jazzy “Heart of Mine” by John L. Nelson and said it is the first single from the album, “Don’t Play With Love, The John L. Nelson Project,” to be released Oct. 27.
